How do I email The Public School?
Contact address: thepublicschool -at- telic -dot- info
Is The Public School accredited?
No. The Public School is not accredited, it does not give out degrees, and it has no affiliation with the public school system.
When do classes happen?
See the offerings for classes that have been definitively scheduled; see the comments on the class pages for planning-in-process.
When will [some class] happen?
Classes will be scheduled by DAN (The Public School committee) and will be announced shortly thereafter. DAN also meets monthly to make decisions about which classes are ultimately offered, which classes are left as proposals, and which classes are NANDed.
Who is DAN?
DAN is The Public School committee. One member of the committee is appointed by TELIC Arts Exchange, while the other are rotating members to foster a constant renewal of ideas, energy, and agendas. Currently, DAN is Elise Co, Sean Dockray, Chandler McWilliams, Naoko Miyano, and Nikita Pashenkov, and Caleb Waldorf.
How does The Public School work?
Right now, this picture is the best explanation.
I still want to know more about the inner workings of The Public School. How?
You can come to the The Public School class. You can also subscribe to the deliberations list, or browse its archives, here:http://thepublicschool.org/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/list/discussions/
How much do classes cost?
At the moment, the approximate cost per student per class could be calculated according to the formula (Hourly Teachers Fee X (Classroom Hours + Preparation Hours)) + Materials + (Administration + Overhead). At present, DAN’s policy is that not every class needs to break even; taken as a group, however, they should.
I can’t afford that. Is there something you can do?
After the first The Public School class, we initiated a redistribution of wealth program that works like this: Teachers can offer to donate their fee back to The Public School. Students who want to take a class but can’t afford it can have their fees paid by this money. If you want to pay a class fee in this way, simply write a letter to dan -at- thepublicschool -dot- org explaining why you want to take the class and why you can’t pay the fee.
I don’t see my question here. How can I ask one?
If you’re logged in then you can ask it below (down there). All information is subject to change.

how do you edit a course description if you’re the person who posted it?

What does DAN stand for? And for that matter, what does NAND stand for?
DAN stands for The Public School committee. If the school (classes, decisions, public activity) was thought of as a phenotype, then the committee would be the genotype.
NAND stands for Not AND, or a class that won’t be offered. When this happens to a class it will be accompanied by a statement from DAN
